Hygiene Appointments

With Cleaning and Dietary advice


Maintaining good overall oral hygiene is by far the best way to prevent problems with your teeth in the future, as we’ll as being the best way to keep your teeth looking and feeling at their best.


We routinely offer patients a hand scale and polish at their check up appointments to help keep on top of any minor plaque build up and to reduce the amount of visits needed.


For patients with heavier plaque build up and staining or signs of gum disease our dentist may recommend full Hygiene sessions. These sessions give a deeper clean to remove hardened plaque. Some patients may require several sessions to begin to see an improvement in their periodontal health.

Some patients may be recommended to have routine hygiene sessions every 3 or 6 months as part of their long term care.

Tips on cleaning


Our dentist will advise you on how best to clean your teeth after a dental examination. He may also give you advice on lifestyle habits, and any food or drinks that may be causing unnecessary harm to your teeth.

But here are some good general tips to follow;


  • Floss daily before brushing
  • Brush for 2 minutes twice a day
  • Brush each tooth in a circular motion, making sure to brush every surface. Gently brush the gum around each tooth and the tongue.
  • Spit toothpaste out but do not rinse or use mouthwash.
  • Avoid eating of drinking for an hour after flossing and brushing.
